Our client, a prominent figure in the aerospace industry, is currently seeking a Tool Maker to join their team. This role is integral to supporting aerospace manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) operations by ensuring the availability, accuracy, and reliability of all tooling, jigs, and fixtures. This position involves the manufacture, servicing, and repair of high-precision tools critical in the production and development of aircraft components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture, service, and repair a wide range of tools, jigs, and fixtures to support both new product development and existing aerospace production.
  • Operate manual machine tools to fine tolerances, including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and horizontal boring machines.
  • Work from detailed technical drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to produce high-precision components.
  • Apply precision measurement techniques using a variety of instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Carry out maintenance and modifications on existing production tooling and fixtures to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support the assembly and testing of prototypes by manufacturing and adjusting tooling solutions.
  • Provide practical input on tooling design, fabrication methods, and process improvements.
  • Liaise closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and ensure tool readiness.

Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in tooling, with significant experience in either milling or turning machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Effective communicator and team player, able to work across departments.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of supporting continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Tool room experience is preferable but good all-rounded experience within a workshop environment is essential.
  • Basic knowledge of welding (Gas, MIG, TIG, Stick) is advantageous.
  • Educated at least at GCSE level or equivalent, with the ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
