Our client, a leading company in the Defence & Security sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Electronics Engineer and Capability Lead with expertise in electronics design to join their team in Marlow. This permanent role entails designing, developing, and maintaining complex antenna systems and products, particularly suited for demanding aerospace environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and test innovative solutions for Antenna electronics, incorporating emerging technologies in product designs
  • Conduct requirements analysis, review and substantiation with customers
  • Drive test, characterisation and verification for prototype and product designs, ensuring qualification and requirements compliance
  • Act as a customer- and internal stakeholder-facing representative of the team and business unit
  • Drive new business through managing bids, developing concept designs, project-level estimates, and generating technical proposals
  • Provide line management for the Electronics design team, offering expert technical guidance and enabling professional development
  • Coordinate with the Head of Engineering and Chief Engineer to direct and implement strategic and tactical initiatives within the business unit

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in CPLD/FPGA firmware (VHDL) and associated development tools such as Quartus
  • Strong knowledge of current high-speed digital technologies, CPLD, microprocessors, FPGA, DDR Memory etc.
  • Experience in designing RF, High-Speed digital, Power Supply, and common interface busses such as SPI, I2C
  • Proficiency with electronics design tools for schematic capture, circuit simulation, and PCB layout
  • Experience with board bring-up, debug, and electronics testing using standard lab tools (oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, signal generators, and power supplies)
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and processes such as AS9100, ARP4754A, DO-254, and DO-178
  • Ability to analyse processes and tools to drive continual improvements, and to lead and inspire teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across all business levels
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronic and Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in leading and growing high-performing engineering teams
  • Experience in RTL Design and Verification (VHDL), preferably with Xilinx Vivado/ISE or Intel (Altera) Quartus Prime
  • Experience in configuration management within a team environment (Git, SVN, etc.)
  • Knowledge of releasing firmware to production and interfacing with hardware devices and peripherals
