CAD Technician - Rail Infrastructure

Shape the future of Britain's railway network with a leading specialist consultancy delivering major national infrastructure programmes. This organisation is expanding its multi‑disciplinary rail design team and is seeking an experienced CAD Technician to support a growing portfolio of high‑profile projects.

Based in Greater Manchester, you'll play a key role in producing high‑quality technical drawings for a wide range of rail infrastructure schemes, including station accessibility upgrades, track and electrification improvements, and complex civils works across the UK network.

Role Responsibilities

  • Producing detailed CAD drawings for rail infrastructure projects from early concept through to construction
  • Creating general arrangements, detailed designs, and as‑built drawings in line with industry standards
  • Developing layout drawings for stations, platforms, track alignments, and civil engineering structures
  • Producing structural detailing for OLE foundations, signal gantries, and station assets
  • Coordinating multi‑disciplinary inputs across civils, structures, M&E, and rail systems
  • Preparing tender and construction drawing packages for NEC4‑based projects
  • Managing drawings and documentation using ProjectWise
  • Maintaining drawing registers and version control to ensure compliance
  • Supporting site surveys and integrating measured data into design outputs
  • Producing red‑line mark‑ups and design change documentation
  • Working to recognised rail CAD standards including GRIP and AIP requirements
  • Supporting engineers with visualisations and 3D modelling
  • Contributing to design reviews and coordination meetings

Candidate Profile

  • Formal qualification in CAD, Engineering, or Technical Drawing (HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Proven CAD Technician experience within rail, infrastructure, or construction
  • Proficiency in MicroStation - essential
  • Experience with ProjectWise - essential
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows - desirable
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards beneficial but not essential
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to work to deadlines while maintaining quality
  • Clear communication skills for effective collaboration with engineers and project teams
