The Challenge

While Prior to becoming Specsavers’ MSP partner, Matchtech was appointed to their PSL. Over time, Specsavers became particularly reliant on temporary workers for business support, IT and customer support roles due to peaks in demand and internal project requirements. Specsavers faced challenges in scaling their operations due to limited visibility and control over workforce costs, processes and governance. The structure of their TA team meant temporary recruitment was managed alongside permanent hiring, leading to inefficiencies and administrative strain, especially during rapid growth. Use of multiple agencies led to fragmented recruitment activities, causing inconsistent messaging and a disjointed candidate experience. As a world-leading employer of choice, Specsavers highly prized their candidate experience and wanted better control over brand representation. Evolving governance legislation, including IR35 reforms, posed additional compliance challenges, increasing financial, legal and reputational risk in a highly regulated industry.
Centralised MSP Solution

Full visibility and control of the contractor workforce

Our MSP provided Specsavers with a centralised solution that offered real-time visibility into their workforce data. This helped better manage contractor spend, standardise compliance, and make informed decisions based on accurate reporting.

Extension of the TA Function

End-to-end management, freeing the internal team to focus on permanent hiring

Our dedicated solutions team acted as an extension of Specsavers’ TA function, managing the end-to-end process from sourcing to onboarding, while ensuring a seamless experience for both hiring managers and candidates. This alleviated the administrative burden on the internal team, allowing them to focus on permanent hiring and strategic workforce planning.

By eliminating duplicated efforts from competing agencies and bringing all temporary recruitment under central governance and control, we ensured Specsavers’ employer brand remained consistent and untarnished throughout.

Spend Management

Migrating workers and rationalising suppliers to drive long-term savings

We introduced cost-saving measures by migrating workers from expensive third-party providers onto our payroll, which not only reduced costs but also improved contractor retention.

We rationalised and renegotiated supplier terms to deliver long-term savings, and improved worker tenure management to drive commercial benefits and strengthen the advantages of volume hiring. During periods of rapid expansion, managing contract renewals became significantly simpler under a consolidated MSP model.

As a result, we produced over £1,000,000 in cost savings within the first three years of the MSP partnership.
